Hotel De Plantage is located in the scenic district of Commewijne, named after the Commewijne River. This district used to be one of the most important plantation areas in Suriname. Cocoa, coffee, cotton and especially sugar were grown here. Until the end of the last century, the large sugar factory and plantation Mariënburg were still in operation.
